Northeast Regional Director

Northeast Region Map From the NE Regional Representative

It has been a pleasure getting to know the Board Members and introducing myself in the region. I have had several opportunities to talk with practitioners in the region and I can honestly say that there are a number of areas that are interested in bringing pretrial services to their communities.

I will continue to reach out and I encourage anyone who is interested or needs assistance to call me. If I can’t answer the question, I will find someone who can. My contact information is listed in the newsletter and on the NAPSA website.

I am proud to announce that Jason Parsons, a pretrial officer from Warren County Ohio is the 2009 Northeastern Regional recipient of the NAPSA Droege Scholarship award. This award will allow Jason to travel to the NAPSA National Conference and Training Institute in September, Congratulations Jason!

News from Maine Pretrial Services

Greetings from Maine Pretrial Services! We have been very busy with some legislative work, which will likely result in a fifty percent expansion of our current staff statewide. We are proud to announce that all of our staff with one year or more experience have been certified as pretrial professionals.

Our deputy director, Shawn LaGrega, just marked his tenth anniversary of dedication to the agency, and we look forward to his next ten years. Our efforts to launch objective risk assessment statewide have been achieved, and our next goal is the statewide validation of our tool. We are hoping to host a NAPSA conference in Maine within the next few years, and cannot wait to see you all in Charlotte in the fall.

Elizabeth Simoni,
Executive Director
Maine Pretrial Services

Greetings from NY

Hello to everyone out there. We are still waiting for summer to begin in NY. Way too much rain for June! The NYAPSA Board has been working very hard this year and I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every Board member for their dedication to our association and to the field of pretrial. After many years and promises from me, we are on track planning for a conference after a few years’ hiatus.

We have tentatively set April 2010 as our target date. This will allow us to get together, network, share ideas and learn more about our craft. We may even be able to reach out to our other eastern regional neighbors for collaboration. Many of our practitioners have truly missed having an annual conference and we hope to provide some wonderful programming. More information will be forthcoming on our web page nyapsa.org

As some of you may know, I am pleased to announce my agency’s very own Barbara Darbey has been appointed to the National Association of Pretrial Service Agencies Board as our Northeastern Regional Director.

Congratulations to Barb and we look forward to working with her in her new capacity. NY is also represented on the NAPSA Board by Peter Kiers from New York City who is the current NAPSA President. Anyone that knows Barb and Peter’s passion for our craft can certainly agree we will be well represented at the national level.

One last note I would like to welcome new NYAPSA Board Member Cathy Lucisano from Monroe County and new President of NYAPSA, Cathy Lane from Duchess County. Cathy will represent the state well and take our association to even greater heights. I wish you all the best during these tough economic times. Now more than ever, the field of pretrial must continue to be vital. Our high standards and exemplary work can only make our local criminal justice systems more effective and save tax payer dollars. My tenure as President of NYAPSA is complete but I will be remaining on the Board so they are not rid of me yet!!

Thanks and best wishes!
