Dear
Colleagues,
The his is the conference edition of our newsletter, and we hope you are considering attending the Conference in Charlotte this year. This will be our 37th Conference and Training Institute, and our Conference Committee, Host committee, and Service Director have been working hard to ensure the superior quality of the workshops and conference venue. Whether you are a manager or line staff, there will be something extremely worthwhile for you to bring back to your program. Along with local speakers, we will have presenters and trainers from the National Institute of Corrections, the Pretrial Justice Institute, and other knowledgeable practitioners from around the country to give flavor and experience that is not available elsewhere. Also remember that one conference gives you the required 25 training hours needed for your recertification.
I would like to welcome three new additions to our Board of Directors: Barb Darbey from Rochester, NY has been appointed to fill the Northeast Regional Director position vacated by Jan Egner, Charlotte McPherson from Frankfort, KY was elected to the Central Regional Director position and Dennis Potts from Houston, TX has been appointed to fill the delegate-at-large position held by Greg Johnson who is now the NAPSA Vice-President. Our new board members bring a wealth of pretrial knowledge and are assets to our current board. We are fortunate to have them. I want to thank Jan Egner for all her years of service especially with conference planning. Her help was invaluable.
We have just completed another class of graduates for pretrial certification. Thirty practitioner-graduates passed the certification test bringing the total of Certified Pretrial Services Practitioners (CPSP) nationwide to 242! The next test will be given in January. For those not yet certified, please plan ahead and consider taking the January test. The Certification Overview is available on the website. Click the certification section. All CPSPs who attained certification status in 2007 or earlier will be required to recertify in 2010. Please review the requirements for submitting your recertification documents and application.
As I mentioned last time, NAPSA and PJI have entered into a contract for PJI to perform service director responsibilities for our association. The resources in personnel, talent, and technology that PJI brings to the table have allowed the Association to grow even more over the past few months. We have improved communication with members, established a hot line, and focused on education and training development and membership development. In our next newsletter, I will be talking more about this and what to look forward to in the future.
Don't forget to send in your registration and make your travel arrangements for the Conference in Charlotte. You will not be disappointed. I look forward to seeing you in September at the Conference.
