Health and Reentry Innovations for the Pretrial and Community Corrections Field
This presentation will provide an introduction to the Health and Reentry Project (HARP), including how the program can positively impact individuals involved in the pretrial system and on other forms of community supervision. HARP was established to improve the health and safety of people and communities. Through education and analysis, HARP strengthens policies to expand access to health care for people directly impacted by the justice system. The the discussion will focus on the key considerations for the field including pretrial practitioners given the potential impact on the population under supervision. Illinois' Pretrial Fairness Act
Provides an overview of the framework of Illinois' Pretrial Fairness Act (PFA) and includes findings from an evaluation of the PFA being conducted by Loyola University Chicago's Center for Criminal Justice, and supported by the National Institute of Justice. The research findings will highlight differences in implementation across the state's diverse counties, identify factors that predict which cases are being detained or ordered to pretrial conditions such as supervision or electronic monitoring, discuss the impact the PFA has had on rates of pretrial release, failure to appear, new criminal charges, crime, and jail populations.
